While the 70’s throwback trend has been in our stores for quite some time, it's hinting to stick around. As stores ramp up the offerings of peasant blouses, shift dresses, mini skirts and too many gladiators to name, we suggest three subtle every-day-ways to tap into the trend without looking like your stepping off the set of Austin Powers.
1. IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE SILHOUETTE
70’s inspired fashion 2016/17 has been heavily inspired by the silhouettes of the time, with one too many flare options and drop waists. However, you can always incorporate some of the trending inspo to your outfit simply through fabric choice.
Darker denims and heavier fabrics such as suede and velvet are not only perfect for the cooling weather but simple ways to tip your cap to the continuing trend, without accumulating a wardrobe of styles you may not be feeling come next year.
2. THE WRAP DRESS
From the moment Diane Von Fursenberg launched the iconic Wrap Dress in ’74 the style has never left. Despite the influence of the time leaning toward loud and psychedelic prints (yuk!) contemporary girls today can still pay homage to the design, but in more shall we say, current, tones (thank god!).
The Original Wrap Dress 1974
The style that sold over 5million in two years (under the one label!) is truly a staple not to be messed with. Designed with or without sleeves, the Wrap Dress can take you all year round, take celebs Gigi Hadid and Olivia Palermo for example.
3. OFF THE SHOULDER TO STAY
Okay so while the off the shoulder is technically a 60’s trend; it was known to linger into the 70’s… but with wayyyy more ruffles. EEK, No thanks!
There is always a correct amount of ruffle.
…. Similarly, this trend looks as though it’s here to linger again, staying strong throughout twenty seventeen. Get on board with more toned down silhouettes and be sure to keep the ruffles to a minimum.
Also, be sure to hang onto this one. Even if it looks like off-the-should starts to die down, don’t be fooled, its been rearing its head since the 1800’s, and who can blame it when EVERY girl looks banging showing off her collarbones.
